VENGLOS Jozef

(2.18.1936)

       Born in Ruzomberok. Played for SK (Slovan) Bratislava and was a team captain too. Played in the midfield, he was a very diligent player with original football thinking. His football career was prematurely ended by hepatitis.
        When he was 30 years old, went to Australia to teach, trained FC Sydneyand later Australian national team. After return he trained VSS (currently 1. FC) Kosice and from there he came back to Slovan (SK) Bratislava, with  which as a trainer he became 2 times Czechoslovak champion.
        In 1972 was a trainer (together with FABERA) of Czechoslovakia U-23, which became European champion. Later he became an assistant trainer (to JEZEK) of Czechoslovak national team and in EURO 1976 became with it European champion.
        In 1978 became after JEZEK trainer of Czechoslovak national team. In 1980Czechoslovakia finished 3-rd in EURO 1980.
        He was and still working in a miscellaneous football functions. Among a clubs which he was a trainer of is for example Sporting Lisboa. Currently (1998) he is a Chairman of European trainers union.
In year 2000 he was voted for Slovakian trainer of the century.
