Jan POPLUHAR
(8. 12. 1935)
Born in Bernolakovo, okr Bratislava.One of the biggest football legends
of post war era in Czechoslovakia. He grew up in modern libero, who participated
in many All-Star teams of Europe and World.
With football started in Bernolakovo. On tournament in city Ivanka was
seen by SK Slovan Bratislava trainer Vanak.
Before army duty playing for Slovan never dressed A-team jersey. First
time became known in jersey of czech club RH Brno ( army duty ), and from
there he got into Czechoslovak national team. In World
cup 1958 ( Sweden ) played against world champion West Germany and
since then became unexpendable part of national team defense.
For SK Slovan Bratislava played 262 Premier league matches ( until 1968
) and scored 21 goals ( mostly from penalties ). With his name is linked
achievement in World
cup 1962 ( Chile ), where Czechoslovak national team reached final
against Brazil. Represented 62 times.
At the end of his professional football career played for Olympique Lyon
( France ), and after returning he was helping ( as a player ) czech club
Zbrojovka Brno to be promoted again to Premier league.
